    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Economic affairs expert Aram Muhammad confirmed today, Sunday (January 7, 2024), that the continuation of attacks on Erbil will lead to the weakening of the most important economic factor on which Kurdistan has relied, represented by the investment movement.
Muhammad said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that, “During the past period, Erbil was a preferred place for investors and businessmen to build residential complexes, factories, hospitals, and private schools.”
He added, "The foreign investor is looking for a calm and stable environment, and therefore the recent escalation in Erbil may lead to the reluctance of businessmen, especially foreigners, from the city."
He pointed out that "the continuation of missile attacks threatens to lose the most important economic factor that Kurdistan in general relied on, which is investment, which led to a boom in the field of construction and reconstruction."
Over the past years, the Kurdistan region was ahead of Baghdad and the rest of the Iraqi governorates in attracting investments, due to the security stability that the region witnessed compared to the rest of Iraq.
But the financial crisis in Kurdistan, which has gone through multiple stages from 2017 until now, has also caused weak investment and a decrease in purchasing power in the region, according to specialists. The recent missile attacks come as an additional factor threatening investment, in contrast to the growing investment attraction in Baghdad during the recent period.
