    Economy News - Baghdad
The Muthanna Investment Authority announced today, Wednesday, the start of planting wheat crops as part of its plan to exploit the land allocated to it, which amounts to 5 thousand dunums in the Muthanna desert.
The head of the authority, Adel Al-Yasiri, said, “One of the companies has begun planting 1,500 dunams in the Muthanna desert to achieve self-sufficiency and support the national economy.”
He added, "The company has adopted modern irrigation methods, fixed irrigation methods, and high-yielding seeds that are resistant to drought and epidemics."
Al-Yasiri pointed out, “The company’s winter plan for next year is to plant 3,000 to 4,000 dunums of wheat.”
He stressed, "Beginning to raise thousands of sheep of good quality, which will contribute to supporting the local product."
The Muthanna Investment Authority had earlier launched a project to cultivate approximately 35,000 dunums of palm trees and wheat in the Muthanna desert.
