    Economy News - Baghdad
Member of the Parliamentary Economy and Trade Committee, Yasser Al-Husseini, accused the government of ignoring the decisions it issued regarding the protection of local products, noting that “the Iraqi product has been subjected to deliberate neglect by successive governments.”
Al-Husseini said, “Since the adoption of the Local Product Protection Law until today, not even a small part of it has been implemented, and the ministries continue to rely on supply contracts from abroad despite the presence of local coverage for many of the ministries’ requirements,” noting that “there is deliberate government negligence and it must stop.” He has and knows his reasons.”
Al-Husseini added that “the fight against the local product is led by influential corruption mafias in the state,” noting that “if Iraq wants to advance its economy, we must eliminate corruption because the economy and corruption are two opposites that never meet.”
The MP pointed out that “there are corrupt hands within the ministries that are pushing towards attacking the local product, and therefore the situation will get worse,” calling on “the government that raised the slogan of fighting corruption to pay attention to this important and dangerous file, which has great benefit for the country.”
Al-Husseini continued, “Sometimes we go outside the norm and demand that corruption mafias invest their money inside Iraq and not waste hard currency outside the country,” noting that “this option is not correct, but it is the closest, especially since most corruption mafias are affiliated in one way or another with the political class.”
