    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (June 27, 2024), member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Sherzad Samad, reviewed the reason for the new alignment mechanism in Kirkuk Governorate, which is represented by internal disintegration among the Kurds, as well as internal Arab disintegration, noting that one of the blocs is close to Turkey.
Samad said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Democratic Party, the Arab Alliance in Kirkuk, and the Turkmen Front work within one bloc, and these parties are close to the Turkish side.”
He added, "The governor of Kirkuk must be Kurdish and from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, as it is the largest bloc within the provincial council. This is what happens in the installation of the three presidencies, and the distribution of positions is at the expense of the number of seats."
He pointed out that "the Democratic Party requires that the governor of Kirkuk be Kurdish, but not from the National Union, and they want an independent governor, as they claim. This is an act against the Kurdish interest in Kirkuk, in which the Kurds suffered from injustice and exclusion."
After there were two Kurdish-Christian blocs, which had 8 seats, and an Arab-Turkmen bloc, which also had 8 seats, the crisis suggests the existence of a Kurdish-Kurdish “disintegration”, especially with the objection of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which has two seats, to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan assuming the position of governor. Kirkuk alone has 5 seats.
In terms of numbers, the new scenarios mean that the alliance of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan with Babylon, Arabism and the leadership is aimed at granting the position of governor to the Kurds, and if this alliance is formed, there will be 8 seats, compared to the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the United Arab Alliance, and the Turkmen, and this alliance also constitutes 8. Seats, but it aims to give the position of governor to the Arabs, but with equal seats, this means that nothing has happened, and the crisis will remain as it was.
