    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
An informed source revealed, today, Thursday (July 11, 2024), the details of the first session of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, while noting that a dispute occurred between the blocs during the session.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "According to the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the first session of the Kirkuk Provincial Council is supposed to be held, and indeed all members attended the governorate building."
He added, "According to the law, the oldest member, Rakan Saeed Al-Jabouri, who was holding the position of governor, was supposed to open the session, but a dispute arose between the blocs."
He pointed out that "Al-Jubouri requested to close the session after opening it to keep the reins of affairs in his hands, but the political blocs requested to make the session open today and the dialogue began."
The source explained, "According to the legal experts, it is impossible to close the session, because the law stipulates that a president for the council be elected in the first session."
A political source reported today, Thursday, that Kirkuk Provincial Council held its first session.
The source told Baghdad Today, "Kirkuk Provincial Council held its first session today since its election," indicating that "the oldest chairman, Rakan al-Jubouri, chaired the session."
He added, "Al-Jubouri called on the rest of the members to attend the Kirkuk Provincial Council session hall."
He said that "Al-Jubouri left the hall now after the session was held," without mentioning further details.
