    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
Secretary-General of the Arab Opinion Authority in Kirkuk, Nazim Al-Shammari, called today, Tuesday (July 30, 2024), to postpone the formation of the Kirkuk local government until after the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.
Al-Shammari said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the formation of the government in Kirkuk must be postponed until after the elections that will be held in the tenth month of this year, due to its direct impact on the negotiations that the parties of the region are conducting in the Kirkuk Provincial Council."
He added, "The postponement will prevent these parties from using the Kirkuk card as an electoral propaganda in the regional elections, and each party's attempt to obtain more gains at the expense of others, even if that leads to threatening security and stability in the province."
Despite the holding of the first session of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, no agreement has yet been reached on the selection of a new governor, and pledges have been made to the blocs and members of the council that any agreement will not be put on the table of the council meeting.
On July 20, 2024, the Independent High Electoral Commission announced the lists of candidates for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, while setting next August as the date for the draw of candidate numbers .
