The Coordination Framework announced its position on the Personal Status Law and the most important terms that have been suspected, while calling on the Council of Representatives to proceed with the first reading of the law.
A statement by the framework received by (Mawazbin News) stated that "the Coordination Framework held its regular meeting today, Monday, in Nouri al-Maliki's office, and the Coordination Framework called on the Council of Representatives to proceed with the first reading of the Personal Status Law," explaining that "the draft law regulates matters related to the personal status of each sect or religion and does not cancel the current law." The Coordination Framework
considered that "the intended amendment to the Personal Status Law is in harmony with the constitution, which stipulates that Iraqis are free to make their choices in a manner that does not conflict with the constants of Sharia and the foundations of democracy."
