The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities has completed five new water projects out of 16 included in the government program.
Director of the General Directorate of Water, Ammar Al-Maliki, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah", followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that the ministry has stopped 60 percent of the waste of potable water, noting that the percentage of those served will rise to 80 percent if the 16 projects in the government program are completed.
He explained that there are nine new water projects that will soon be included in the ministry's plan, while the directorate continues to implement 35 projects in the water sector in all governorates, confirming at the same time the completion of eight other projects during the past three years, in addition to supervising three projects that are about to
be completed.
Al-Maliki added that the directorate launched a project to install electronic meters and automate collection to rationalize water consumption and reduce waste, in addition to calculating the real value of water consumed by citizens and abandoning the previously approved calculation mechanism.
