    Baghdad Today - Diyala
MP Aref Al-Hamami said, today, Saturday (July 13, 2024), that completing the formation of the local government for Diyala Governorate is the responsibility of the political blocs and not within the authority of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
Al-Hammami explained in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The political interference exists in the Diyala file and the crowding is a reality, and no two people disagree about it, but resolving the knot is the responsibility of the political blocs and not the responsibility of the Prime Minister."
He added, "The situation in Kirkuk is different from Diyala, and the same scenario cannot be applied, because there is basically a political agreement that the position of Diyala governor is the share of the State of Law Coalition, and the rest of the forces must cooperate to pass it."
Al-Hamami pointed out that "after the 10th of Muharram, there will be a stronger movement to resolve the Diyala issue according to political consensus."
In addition, political analyst Adnan Ibrahim acknowledged that there is indeed a veto that prevented Al-Sudani from proceeding with resolving the Diyala crisis, despite the similarity of the crisis to Kirkuk.
He added in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The dispute between Badr and the State of Law Coalition over the position of Diyala Governor is still ongoing, especially with the recent message from the Sheikh of Bani Tamim in Diyala, who stressed the necessity for the governor to be from his tribe, given the great sacrifices it has made, which means complicating the scene somewhat because the State of Law Coalition nominated Abdul Rasool Al-Atabi, who is the brother of the oldest member of the Diyala Council, Turki Jadaan Al-Atabi."
On Wednesday (July 10, 2024), the oldest member of the Diyala Council, Turki Jadaan, revealed that the governorate’s political complex had been resolved and that Baghdad had given the green light to proceed with a specific roadmap.
In an interview with Baghdad Today, Jadaan said, “We can say that the political complex of Diyala is about to end after the leadership of the Badr Organization decided that the position of governor is the right of the State of Law Coalition, noting that Rasool Al-Atabi is the candidate and is supported by most of the forces in the provincial council.”
He added, "We support Badr being part of the government formation, but the choice remains theirs in the end," stressing that "after the tenth of Muharram, a session will be held to proceed with forming the Diyala government, and the current roadmap is supported by most of the important elites in Baghdad in order to end the political crisis."
Jadaan pointed out that "the majority of the Sunni component supports Omar Al-Karwi for the presidency of the Diyala Council, and the political complex will disappear after the Council session is held, in light of the important agreements that emerged in recent days."
Since the first session was held on 2/5/2024, the council decided to keep it open until now, and the political blocs held several meetings to reach a comprehensive agreement, but each time the crisis returns to its beginning and the council is divided into two teams: the first is the team of the former governor who wants to return to his position and is made up of 8 members in Badr, State of Law, Progress, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and a member from Sovereignty, in addition to the other team that stands against the renewal of Al-Tamimi and is made up of 7 members from Asaib and Al-Azm and two members from Sovereignty and the Iraqi Foundation Alliance.
After that, the Sunni blocs also announced their adherence to the position in their favor after the Shiite blocs failed to hold the decisive session, and nominated MP Raad Al-Dahlaki for the position, while the Al-Bishara Movement within the State of Law Coalition also nominated Abdul-Rasoul Jadaan Al-Otaibi for the position of governor as well.
