    Baghdad Today - Sulaymaniyah
The implementation of the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to unify the salaries of Kurdistan Region retirees with all Iraqi retirees faces a new challenge and a complex condition for its implementation, as Baghdad demands that the Kurdistan Region pay the retirement deductions deducted from the region’s retirees when they were employees years ago in exchange for Baghdad undertaking to pay the salaries of retirees and increase them according to the unified retirement law, similar to the rest of Iraq’s retirees.
Former member of the Finance Committee, Ahmed Al-Haj Rashid, ruled out today, Wednesday (July 31, 2024), the possibility of unifying the salaries of retirees in the Kurdistan Region with their peers in the rest of the Iraqi governorates for this reason.
Al-Hajj Rashid said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "after sending the salary lists to Baghdad for retirees according to the Iraqi retirement law, the government, specifically the Ministry of Finance, asked the regional government to hand them the retirement deductions."
He added, "Without the regional government handing over the funds for retirement deductions to retirees, salaries cannot be unified, and talking about this issue is just propaganda."
On July 21, 2024, the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region announced that it had sent lists of salaries for the region’s retirees to the central government in Baghdad, indicating that sending lists of salaries for retirees was done in accordance with the Unified Retirement Law.
The Federal Supreme Court’s decision imposed the payment of salaries to Kurdistan retirees in accordance with the provisions of the Unified Retirement Law No. 9 of 2014 in force in Baghdad, which replaced Law No. 27 of 2006, as there are approximately 278 thousand retirees and the value of their salaries amounts to 122 billion dinars.
If the decision is implemented, the salaries of Kurdistan retirees will increase after the federal retirement law is applied to them, as the minimum salary for Iraqi retirees is 500 thousand dinars, while the minimum salary for Kurdistan retirees is 220 thousand dinars, which means that implementing the decision of the Federal Supreme Court will raise the minimum salary for the region’s retirees by about 130%.
