How will the Iraqi economy be affected by the expected Iranian strikes? An economist answers

Economic researcher Diaa Al-Mohsen revealed today, Thursday, the extent to which the Iraqi economy would be affected if Iran responded with military strikes against Israel to the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
Al-Mohsen said, "All expectations indicate that the Iranians will strike Israel, but when and how? No one knows about this issue," noting that "the most important question is whether Iraq will be harmed?"
“Everyone knows that an important part of the axis of resistance is being formed in Iraq, and this axis is committed to fighting the Zionist enemy and those who stand behind it,” Al-Mohsen added, noting that “some may imagine that the government stands against this axis, but this is very unlikely for many reasons; one of these reasons may be the arrogance of the Zionist side and its continued targeting of defenseless Palestinian civilians, hospitals and schools, which the Iraqi government has condemned. However, we do not expect there to be a major impact if Iran and the axis of resistance strike targets of the Zionist entity and American interests in the region, especially if we take into consideration that the Americans are currently living in the atmosphere of the presidential elections and do not want any emergency event to spoil their mood, whether in the Arabian Gulf region or the Middle East region in general.”
“Regarding the dollar, we have said on more than one occasion that there is collusion between the monetary authority, private banks and major speculators in not allowing the dollar to rise above the 1,500 dinar/dollar barrier because this means putting materials in a corner that may turn the tables on everyone, and there will be no beneficiary, but they may be the biggest losers, and this trinity will not allow the dollar exchange rate to fall below the 1,400 dinar/dollar threshold,” he continued.
Hamas announced yesterday, Wednesday (July 31, 2024), the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the movement's political bureau abroad, stressing that Haniyeh's assassination is a dangerous escalation.
Iranian media quoted the Iranian Revolutionary Guards confirming the news of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said: “We are studying the dimensions of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and we will announce the results of the investigation later.” Meanwhile, Reuters quoted sources as saying that senior Iranian officials will meet with representatives of Tehran’s allies in the region from Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen on Thursday to discuss a possible response to Israel.
This comes as the Iranian Chief of Staff said: “We are studying how we and the axis of resistance will respond to the assassination of Haniyeh, and the response is inevitable.”
This comes in response to the recent assassinations carried out by Israel, which resulted in the killing of Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, as well as Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr, who was assassinated in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The dollar prices in Baghdad and Erbil recorded a rise in Baghdad markets today, Thursday, when the stock exchanges closed.
