    The Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Aboudi announced today, Friday, that Iraq is close to being free of depleted uranium waste.
    A statement by the ministry - received by (Mawazine News) - stated that "the Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Aboudi visited the headquarters of the Arab Atomic Energy Commission in Tunisia, where he met with its Director General Salem Al-Hamdi, where the two sides discussed areas of Arab cooperation in the field of developing energy for peaceful and educational uses."

The statement added that "Al-Aboudi reviewed the path of the national vision of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission regarding the zero reactor, the research reactor, and nuclear power plants," noting that "the efforts of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission are continuing to clear the remaining areas," stressing that "the final announcement of Iraq being completely free of depleted uranium waste will be soon."
    According to the statement, Al-Aboudi extended an official invitation to "host the 17th session of the Arab Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Baghdad."
    For his part, Director General of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency in Tunisia, Salem Al-Hamdi, expressed his "happiness to receive the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, who confirmed Iraq's determination to regain its position in the Arab Atomic Energy Agency," noting "the agency's need for Iraqi expertise and to benefit from the great scientific momentum that Iraq possesses."
    He appreciated "the generous invitation extended by Iraq to host the 17th session of the Arab Conference organized by the Arab Atomic Energy Agency on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy."
