Former Member of Parliament Abdul Khaliq Al-Azzawi announced on Thursday the cancellation of the suspension of the agricultural plan in what he called the Iraqi breadbasket.
Al-Azzawi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, "The Ministry of Water Resources, due to the scarcity of water, decided to suspend the agricultural plan in Al-Azim district and its villages in the far north of Diyala, even though it constitutes the breadbasket at the level of the governorate, as its production reaches nearly 60 thousand tons annually."
He added, "The suspension of the agricultural plan in Al-Azim district was cancelled after the recent rains contributed to increasing the amount of water in Al-Azim Dam, which revived the hopes of thousands of farmers about the possibility of farming and continuing to produce grains such as wheat, barley and other crops, noting that "70% of the people of the district depend on agriculture to secure their livelihoods."
He pointed out that "whenever there is rain and floods, it will revive the agricultural areas and push them to cultivate more and support national production."
It is noteworthy that Al-Azim district and its villages constitute the breadbasket of Diyala and have the highest production quantities at the district level. End 25 F
