A large explosion was triggered by a "suicide attack" in the central Afghan capital of Kabul.
The blast occurred near the US embassy and a compound used by international forces led by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Afghanistan, according to an Afghan security official.
Najib Danesh, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, said the attack was a suicide attack, killing eight people and wounding 25 civilians.
Initial reports say the blast was caused by a suicide attack on a military convoy.
An Afghan security official was quoted by AFP as saying the convoy was foreign.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The Afghan Taliban has recently declared what it calls the "spring" attacks targeting Afghan army and security personnel and foreign troops in the country.
