Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi received on Sunday the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program Eric Solheim, during which they discussed the support of rehabilitation projects for the Marshlands.
"In his office, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Eric Solheim, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Environment Program to discuss supporting the rehabilitation of the Marshlands," the media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement. The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation with the United Nations in the field of the environment, removing the remnants of war, reducing the impact of dust storms, forming a green belt in a number of areas and building Iraqi capacity, in addition to the marshes and rehabilitating them.
For his part, Undersecretary-General of the United Nations Solheim, on "the United Nations support for the projects of marshes and the mitigation of dust storms within the regional program includes a number of countries, including Iraq."
