Washington will take a "strategic position" against Qatar

Arab and international  Since 2017-06-06 at 15:52 (Baghdad time)

    Mawazine News - Follow up
The foreign affairs adviser to President Donald Trump's campaign, Walid Fares, said there was a "big American concern" from Doha, which drew internal criticism from the president and his administration through a video posted on his Facebook page.
"The US administration and Congress are studying the positions of Qatar on the subject of criticizing the administration of President Trump and President Trump (personally)," Fares said.
He said that "this issue is an internal American, has nothing to do with the Arab region," pointing to Qatar's criticism of the US administration "has aroused great concern in Washington."
Fares warned that the US administration would have a "strategic position" from Doha if it did not abandon its current policy of supporting extremist groups and turning a blind eye to fighting terrorism.
"It is impersonal and not hasty, but it is based on a series of criticisms about US-Qatari relations and the many criticisms of the Gulf states and Qatar," he said.
"How can one of the US allies in the region, Qatar, open a bridge with the Iranian regime?" Fares said, recalling President Trump's recent remarks in Riyadh about the need for a unified Arab stance to end Iranian military and security chaos in the region.
"What is known is that the Iranian regime poses a threat to the national security of the United States of America," he said. "This is confirmed by the US Secretary of Defense and State Department, national security advisers and many members of the majority in the US Congress."
Fares expressed his belief that Washington "will go through hidden or secret diplomacy or indirect to its partners in the region to understand the reality of things."
"Of course, there will be a message to Qatar, and there will be two options: either Qatar is committed to this broad front of the Arab and Islamic countries and abandons its current policies, and things will return to what they were or better."
"Either the US administration has a strategic position from Doha based on a set of criticisms about US-Qatari relations and a host of criticisms between the Gulf states and Qatar," he concluded.
