    BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Iraqi parliament's legal committee confirmed on Wednesday that the parliament is seeking to reduce its membership, while noting that the government is capable of reducing the salaries of parliamentarians.
    A member of the committee, "Kamel Zaidi," in a statement to the «Journal News», that "the amendment of the provincial councils law No. 21 of 2008 includes a paragraph to reduce the members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives," adding that "this paragraph was raised in agreement with the Committee of the parliamentary regions."
    "The House of Representatives will go to reduce the number of its members as well as members of the local councils."
    Zaidi pointed out that "the salaries of members of parliament is based on the law of public retirement and the law of salaries of employees controlled by the government," pointing out that "the parliament is not interested in reducing the salaries of its deputies."
    The number of members of the Iraqi parliament 328 deputies divided into political blocs representing different minorities and components and religions
