German Foreign Minister Zgmard Gabriela canceled his planned visit to Baghdad.
The German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that the cancellation of the visit came after Prime Minister Haider Abadi refused to meet the German official if he also visited Erbil.
Abadi stopped Gabrielle's visit in a non-diplomatic manner and strongly opposed the KDP's political plan to visit Kurdistan after a visit to Baghdad.
"The actual plan of Gabrielle was a diplomatic one. First he wanted to talk to the central government in Baghdad at the beginning of November and then visit Erbil, if the two parties can not hold new talks," the paper said.
But the Iraqi government told the Foreign Ministry that Jibril wanted to come to Baghdad, and the visit was not desirable, according to the newspaper.
"Chancellor Angela Merkel could not change Abadi's position from the visit during a telephone call, and then Gabriel completely canceled the trip to Iraq," Spiegel said.
