WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Sen. Roger Stone, an ally of US President Donald Trump, accused some ministers in the Trump government of seeking to remove him from power using Article 25 of the US Constitution.
"What he called the rebels were planning to remove Trump by protesting the amendment of the US Constitution under Article 25," Stone was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
He added that "some have conducted discussions outside the Council of Ministers and within it," noting that "the plan is broader, where the amendment to Article 25, the approval of the majority of the government and Vice President for the purpose of dismissal and that may be announced at some point in the future."
The Twenty-fifth Amendment outlines the transfer of power in the event of the president's inability and inability to act and since its ratification, the amendment was invoked six times, and the broader use was in 1973, when President Richard Nixon nominated Representative Gerald Ford to replace Vice President Spiro Agnew, who resigned from the position, Stone said in his remarks that the removal Trump was a backup plan for the institution that does this.
