A source at the Ministry of Transport revealed on Tuesday the total imports achieved through sea ports during the last month.

The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Post" that maritime ports have achieved during the last month financial revenues amounted to (20) billion dinars,
pointing to the escalation during the coming period due to increased activity and movement of vessels through Iraqi ports.

He added that the airports and sea ports in the ministry suffer from the problem of conflicting powers and overlapping between the ministry and the border crossings because of overlapping tasks and repetition in the law of the Ministry and the Authority.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Transport called on the Council of Ministers to intervene in resolving the problems related to the overlap of powers in the Civil Aviation Authority and the Border Ports Authority.

He pointed out that the Civil Aviation Authority's law allows it to manage the border crossings, while the Authority's law regards airports and ports as border crossings within their jurisdiction, which caused interference between the two authorities.
