Economic importance of water management in Iraq

This wealth is invaluable and is of great importance, including the economic dimension. Water management is an important matter for maintaining this wealth and its continuous flow. The water resources coming to Iraq and their continuous decline require the competent authorities to work to preserve this wealth and rationalize its use. Water resources, as well as their indispensable human needs, are at the same time a necessary factor in the various economic activities, both industrial and Agricultural and other various activities, Decreasing water coming flows to Iraq greatly affected the agricultural reality, which led to the lack of cultivated areas, or lack thereof, in some areas and offering farmers significant financial losses, as well as falling to the problem of unemployment which is reflected on the Iraqi economy in general. Although Iraq has two large rivers, many small rivers, industrial lakes and natural water bodies, it is suffering from increasing water poverty. The flow rates of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have decreased to about 50% Of the quantities of water coming to it in previous years, due to the establishment of several dams on these rivers by these countries, as well as the exposure of some small rivers to drought due to the decline of water coming from the upstream countries. The increase in water poverty in Iraq is the lack of rainfall. Rainfall rates are not uniform in all regions of Iraq, ranging from 700 to 1000 mm in the north-eastern areas of Iraq and less than 100 mm in the south-west and in some areas ranging from 5 - 15 cm, which means the lack of water resources in Iraq, as well as the increased consumption of human activities and waste and waste in this consumption and very large percentages. Which requires the cooperation of the competent authorities to work on the management of water available to Iraq in a sound manner and to ensure the smooth flow of human activities, agricultural and industrial and other economic activities . The decline of agricultural land in Iraq due to the lack of water availability led to increasing dependence of Iraq on foreign agricultural products, which led to exhaustion of the public budget with much of the income of agricultural imports necessary to cover the needs of citizens daily, which cost many billions of dollars from the treasury of the state and the burden of the Iraqi economy burdens These huge sums of money, as well as exposure to food security of the country to several risks . The increase in the loss of more agricultural land annually has led to an increase in these financial losses due to the decline in domestic agricultural production and the increasing reliance on foreign agricultural products to compensate for it. Some statistics indicate that Iraq loses annually more than 100,000 acres of agricultural land, indicating the magnitude of the economic losses suffered by Iraq because of the loss of this important wealth. The conservation of water wealth through the management of its uses and rationalization of this use and work to prevent waste by taking all necessary measures to achieve this goal and to educate citizens of the necessity of balanced use and rationalization is a guarantee that the Iraqi economy is not exposed to further economic losses resulting from the decline of water resources, which is an important part Especially in the agricultural, industrial and other economic activities that are indispensable, and to work to develop the Iraqi economy by developing and sustaining all activities that activate and achieve its benefits, including water resources, which are subject to the risk of decrease If the reasons for this decrease are not directly addressed to the national economy and expose it to many of the accumulated financial losses, which must be avoided by rational and efficient management of water resources in Iraq.[/rtl] [rtl][You must be registered and logged in to see this link.][/rtl] |
