The parliamentary foreign relations committee announced that the current parliamentary session will not pass the list of new ambassadors, as some of the names nominated by the ministry are controversial.

Committee member Hilal al-Sahlani said that "the committee has not yet received the list of candidates of the new ambassadors. The list did not reach them officially." He said he was supposed to meet them and prepare a final report on the curricula vitae of the candidates and then submit them to the House of Representatives.

He added that «there is disagreement about the representation of candidates from within and outside the ministry, because the Foreign Service Law includes the proportion of those who graduate to the degree of an ambassador from within the ministry and candidates for the political blocs», noting that «some of the names nominated by the ministry is controversial, and reached the Council of Ministers Without the nominations of blocks that have not yet addressed the progress of candidates, and then we heard later agreement to equal representation in the Council of Ministers ».

He went on to say that «one of the proposals that were put forward, included the resolution of the nominations of the ministry first after studying in the Council of Ministers and then sent to Parliament to meet with them and assess their qualifications and submitted to a vote within the Council of Representatives to fill the shortage in missions and Iraqi embassies, to move the names of candidates to the next round .

The parliamentary foreign relations committee confirmed the postponement of the vote on the list of new ambassadors to the next legislative session.

"The parliamentary committee has not received this list so far and we are still waiting for that," said committee chairman Abdel Bari Zebari. "The list was sent from the government to the House of Representatives, but the committee has not yet received it from the presidency.

He added that "the concern of Parliament passing the law of the general budget as well as the amendment of the law of the elections of the Council of Representatives and then complete the adoption of the law of provincial and district elections, automatically prevented the presentation of the list of new ambassadors to the current parliament," noting that "was supposed to interview them and prepare a final report biographies of candidates and Presented to the House of Representatives to be voted on since the last legislative term ».
