Former French president Francois Hollande warned his successor, Emmanuel Macaron, "Do not forget that the French royal class was executed with the guillotine," describing him as "arrogant."
In his new book, "The Lessons of Power," the Socialist politician talks about his five years in office, which ended with becoming the first French leader in modern history not to seek re-election.
Hollande attacked what he called "the arrogant style of McCron," his former cabinet minister, since he took office.
"People who say that people are looking to be ruled by a king should never forget that they are in a country that has been cut off," Holland said.
Holland, King Louis XVI, was the last king to live in the palace of Versailles and was executed by the Guillotine in 1793 during the French Revolution. His wife, Marie Antoinette, was also executed with the Guillotine in the same year.
Hollande accused Macaron of deepening inequality in society by a tax cut that helps wealthy people and businesses and political reforms that pushed the leftist movement in France to describe the former banker as "the president of the rich."
"My government has reduced inequality and this government is increasing it," Holland wrote in his book.
Macaron defended his reforms, which he stressed were aimed at reshaping the French economy but provoked resentment among railway workers, students, public servants and retirees.
