US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday it was not clear whether his planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would go ahead, stressing that he would continue to insist on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
"We will see," he told reporters at the White House, when asked if the summit was still in place. "We have not heard or heard anything at all."
Pyongyang threatened on Wednesday to cancel the upcoming summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump if Washington presses it to abandon its nuclear arsenal in a unilateral way.
North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan said that if the Trump administration "presses us and our unilateral demand to renounce nuclear weapons, we will not pay attention to the talks, and we will have to reconsider whether we will accept the next summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea United Nations ".
Washington demands that North Korea give up nuclear weapons "in full, verifiable and irreversible form."
During a rare inter-Korean summit last month in Panmunjom, a village in the demilitarized zone that divides the Korean Peninsula, Kim and South Korean President Moon Gee-nen stressed their commitment to "total denuclearization" of the peninsula.[/ltr]
