[ltr]The United States has decided to delay the expansion of its sanctions against North Korea, coinciding with a notable success in talks on the summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Wall Street Journal reported that the White House was on Tuesday to announce new sanctions against North Korea over Kim's "hostile" remarks, but decided to postpone the announcement indefinitely after the remarkable success of the talks between the two sides on the planned Kim and Trump meeting On June 12 in Singapore.[/ltr]
[ltr]The paper pointed out that the US Treasury was preparing a package of sanctions that affect more than 30 people, which would affect some Russian companies and Chinese.[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump canceled Thursday's summit on June 12 with Kim in Singapore, but he took the opposite position after less than 24 hours and said the meeting was still possible. "We are having very productive talks with North Korea to hold the summit," he said.[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump said later on Sunday in a tweet at his Twitter account that his negotiating team had arrived in North Korea to work out the date and venue for his meeting with the North leader.[/ltr]
[ltr]The delegation included US Ambassador to the Philippines Kim Sang, Korean National Security Council official Allison Hoeker and US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asia and the Pacific Randall Shriver, the Washington Post reported.[/ltr]
[ltr]The talks, which began on Monday between the US team and North Korean officials, are expected to end on Tuesday[/ltr]
