Newspaper: American Bar Association requests postponement of the vote on the appointment of Cavanaugh

Posted by Reuters  Date: 1:20 pm, September 28
The US Bar Association has asked the Senate Judiciary Committee to postpone the vote on the appointment of Judge Brett Cavanaugh in the Supreme Court to allow the FBI to prove or disprove allegations of sexual abuse against him by university professor Christine Blazy Ford.

The newspaper added that the president of the union Robert Carlson sent a letter to the Commission, including his request on Thursday evening after the testimony of Christine and Kavanu before the Committee.

The letter included Carlson's statement to Republican Committee Chairman Charles Grassley and senior Democrat Dianne Feinstein, "The basic principles that underline the Senate's duty to provide constitutional advice and approval to candidates for federal judicial positions require nothing less than a careful examination of the allegations and facts by the FBI" .

In his testimony, Cavanaugh, a conservative judge at the Federal Court of Appeals, who was chosen by President Donald Trump for the post, said he was the victim of "a clear and strange assassination of personality" orchestrated by the Senate Democrats.

The Republican-run Judicial Committee will meet 11 seats to nine Democratic seats today, and members said they expected to vote on Cavanaugh's appointment at the meeting. The Senate vote of 51 Republican and 49 Democratic members could be put in place within days.

The allegations of sexual assault against Cavanaugh were raised by two other women and the Democrats demanded that they withdraw in light of the allegations and called for an investigation by the FBI.
