    India has increased its crude oil imports by 4.8 per cent in 2018 to a record 4.58 million barrels per day (bpd), while the country has boosted purchases to feed its growing refining capacity, data for tankers tracked by Reuters showed.
    The data showed that in December, the country's total oil imports were 4.86 million barrels per day, up about 15 percent from the previous month and up about 11 percent from a year earlier.
    In 2018 Iraq continued to export oil suppliers to India on an annual basis for the second year in a row, while Saudi Arabia maintained second place, according to data showed.
    Iran remained the third largest oil supplier to India in 2018. Data show that India's total imports from Iran in 2018 amounted to about 531 thousand barrels per day, an increase of 13 percent year on year.
    The Middle East remained the largest supplier of oil to India, with the region's share of imports increasing to around 65 per cent from 63 per cent a year earlier. Indian oil imports from Africa fell slightly to represent about 14.5 per cent of total imports.
    According to data from the Indian Ministry of Petroleum, fuel demand in the country increased by 3.2 percent in December compared to the same month last year.
    Fuel demand was 18.5 million tons and gasoline sales were 10 percent higher than the same period last year, reaching 2.4 million tonnes.
    Cooking gas sales rose 5.6 per cent to 2.17 million tons, while oil sales rose 10.7 per cent to 1.23 million tonnes.
    Sales of bitumen used in the road industry increased by 1.9 per cent, while fuel oil sales rose by 6.5 per cent.
    Indian Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the Indian government was considering several steps to boost oil and natural gas production. Ending / 25
