    [rtl]BAGHDAD, Iraq -[/rtl]
[rtl]US Energy Secretary Rick Perry has approved six secret licenses that allow companies to sell nuclear energy technology and help Saudi Arabia.[/rtl]
[rtl]Perry's approvals, shown in a document known as Part 810 licenses, allow companies to do preliminary work on nuclear energy before the deal and not to ship the equipment required for any station.[/rtl]
[rtl]The National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy said in the document that the companies asked the Trump management to keep the approvals confidential.[/rtl]
[rtl]"In this case, all companies that received a special license submitted a written request to prevent the publication of the license."[/rtl]
[rtl]An Energy Ministry official noted that the requests contained proprietary information and that the licensing process required the approval of several parties.[/rtl]
[rtl]Many US lawmakers fear a nuclear technology partnership with Saudi Arabia could eventually lead to a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Bush administration has quietly sought a broader deal to share nuclear energy technology with Riyadh, with the aim of building at least two nuclear plants.[/rtl]
[rtl]Several countries, including the United States, South Korea and Russia, are vying for the deal, and Saudi Arabia is expected to announce its winners later this year.[/rtl]
[rtl]Earlier in the year, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in an interview with CBS News that the kingdom would produce nuclear weapons if Iran did.[/rtl]
