BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The
Council of Ministers approved the recommendations of activating tourism, issued 12 directives in the forefront of which are zero visa fees for tourist groups from all countries and the opening of direct lines between Iraqi airports and airports of other countries.
The recommendations obtained by Mawazine News include a copy of them, Decided in its ordinary session recommendations to activate tourism, which is reducing the tariff of electricity for hotels Musawah tariffs imposed on the industrial and agricultural sectors.
He also stressed that the Ministry of Culture will submit a proposal for the establishment of a Higher Council for Tourism and Antiquities to support "policies and programs aimed at developing tourism and improving its environment in Iraq."
The recommendations also include "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with the Ministry of Interior to accelerate the work of the electronic access feature program".
The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers d. Mahdi al-Alaq chaired a meeting to review the procedures related to the development of the tourism sector in Iraq, especially religious tourism, in the light of the government's trend towards the advancement of the private sector.
The meeting, which was held in the presence of the heads of the two supreme coordination bodies between the governorates, advisors and general managers from the relevant authorities, in addition to representatives of the Shiite and Sunni Waqfin and the Iraqi Hotel Association, discussed the challenges facing the religious tourism sector in Iraq, based on observations made by the concerned authorities.
The meeting discussed the unification of the efforts of religious tourism through the formation of a single committee to regulate the management of tourism affairs, as well as discussing a number of points that would support the revitalization of the sector, most notably facilitating the procedures for granting entry features to foreign expatriates and reducing the cost of electricity consumption in hotels
The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations and suggestions, the most important of which is the establishment of the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities, the opening of new airlines with some countries or their activation, the draft of the tourism advisory note to the Council of Ministers and the speedy completion of the electronic visa system.
