In two incidents that attracted media attention, the US authorities found in two days the bodies of two former members of the Senate of Arkansas and Oklahoma states, shot dead inside their homes.
Archangas police confirmed that the body of former Republican senator Linda Collins Smith, 56, was found inside her home in Randolph district and was shot dead and investigators believe her death was a murder.
According to media reports, Collins Smith's neighbors, who served as senators in the state Senate from 2010 to 2018, heard gunshots from her home a day or two ago.
As for the second Senator, Republican Jonathan Nichols, 53, who took the seat of senator in the Senate of Oklahoma from 2000 to 2012 and then worked at the University of Oklahoma City and was found in his body on Wednesday after reports of the sound of gunfire.
Local authorities confirmed the deaths of Nichols Thursday, noting that forensic experts are trying to uncover the circumstances of the suspicious death.
