BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A central criminal court to fight corruption will be "similar to the High Criminal Court that tried Saddam Hussein and the symbols of his regime" after his fall in 2003, a senior judicial source revealed.
The source said in a press statement that "the Prime Minister is determined to establish a special and independent criminal court, like Saddam's court and the symbols of the former regime, whose task is to try the corrupt and not to tolerate them, be part of the judicial system, without being affiliated with the Judicial Council or others."
He added, "The Prime Minister believes that there is no solution to fight corruption only through a specialized court that is not affiliated with any party."
The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Fayek Zidan, announced yesterday the formation of a central criminal court to combat corruption to deal with "major" cases.

[size=18]The criminal court for the corrupt will be similar to the court of former president Saddam Hussein and symbols of the regime, a political source revealed.

"The government intends to establish a special and independent criminal court, similar to the court of Saddam Hussein and his symbols," the source told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

He added that "the task of this court is to try the corrupt and not to tolerate them," adding that "it will be part of the judicial system."

"The government believes that there is no solution to fight corruption except through a specialized court that does not belong to any party."
