German company Siemens has started rehabilitation work for the transmission and distribution sectors in a number of provinces, while the US General Electric Company is implementing projects estimated at 55% of the electricity sector in the country.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed al-Abadi, said that his ministry "went towards the activation of contracts with the German (Siemens) and the US (General Electric), as the first package was completed and the company began working with the Iraqi staff in the sectors of transport and distribution within the provinces: Basra and Dhi Qar Maysan and Diwaniya, "noting that" work is underway at an increasing pace to develop the electricity sector in the country and the elimination of waste. "
He pointed out that his ministry "is also seeking to introduce global companies in terms of investments through the achievement of trade and technical coalitions, aimed at achieving qualitative sobriety in order to reach Iraq to the stage of self-sufficiency of energy, and to become a passer for it, and what turns it into a center for the passage of energy from the Arab region Towards Europe. "
Al-Abbadi said that "the contracts of the company (General Electric) is also continuing to work through the rehabilitation of stations and the addition of new energies in addition to the dismantling of bottlenecks," revealing that it "began its work in the provinces of Muthanna."
He pointed out that "the company has old contracts with the ministry up to 55 percent of the energy sector in Iraq, which are solid contracts and there is an intention to conclude other new to add new production capacities."
On the coordination with the Ministry of Oil on the provision of fuel for power plants, he disclosed "the elimination of intersections that were large, and there is a joint operations room and a large coordination starts from the ministers down," noting that "the addition of new production of electricity, depends on the fuel plan, stressing that Within the next three years, and with the completion of the fuel plan, the ministry will no longer need to import energy from neighboring countries, especially since the Ministry of Oil is proceeding with its implementation. "
It is said that the road established roadmap by the company (Siemens) is located on the basis of three ranges, the first short ranges (3 - 6 (months to add 805 megawatts to the system, and the average ranges between (10-20 (months to supplement the system capacity of up to 2400 MW, The plan includes equipping Iraq with new generating units, in addition to the delivery of two large power plants, one of which is up to 2400 MW, which includes up to 2400 MW. The memorandum of understanding signed with General Company will be installed in Nineveh and Babil governorates.
