By direct orders from the White House .. Washington is delaying the delivery of oil money to Baghdad

    The new morning - follow-up:
A report of the American newspaper, "The Journal", confirmed on Saturday that Washington, angry at Baghdad because of its relations with Tehran, has already begun to implement its threats to put pressure on the Iraqi economy by delaying the delivery of important cash payments and reducing the period of exemption from Iranian gas exports to the country.
The report stated the American newspaper that "the United States granted Baghdad at the last minute an exemption from sanctions for importing Iranian gas due to the idle energy networks, but this exemption fell from 90 and 120 days to 45 days only."
"This is the start of death in thousands of cuts. The shorter the exemption, the more difficult we are to bear the costs of an error at this time," warned financial analyst Ahmed al-Tabagajli of the Institute for Regional and International Studies.
The report added that "the Iraqi Central Bank receives every month between 1 to 2 billion dollars in cash from the US Federal Reserve in New York, where all its oil revenues are kept, to pay the costs of official and commercial transactions."
A senior Iraqi official in the oil industry, who declined to be identified, said that "the shipment in mid-January has been delayed for more than a week," referring to "political reasons related to the White House ... we are on the edge of the knife."
"This is the first sign that Washington may implement its threat to prevent Iraqis from accessing their money in the event that Baghdad expels the American forces stationed in Iraq, which number approximately 5,200 soldiers," the report said.
And between the Iraqi official, while the dollars of February arrived in Iraq on the appointed date, Iraqi officials said they expect Washington to start restricting the amount of cash it can bring to Baghdad and that losing access to the money will have devastating repercussions for Iraq, whose economy depends entirely Almost on oil exports paid in US currency.
He added, "If the exemption from sanctions expires, then Iraq will have to either stop buying Iranian gas and face the large power outages that reach 20 hours per day, or continue to import and risk American sanctions themselves."
An Iraqi official said, "US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shouted to the resigned Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi in a phone call last month, saying he was asked to forget negotiations on renewing the exemption if the attacks on US forces continued."
The report noted that «Washington was also angry at the slow progress of Iraq in signing deals with major American energy companies and a move away from Iran, while sources in both Baghdad and Washington described a split in American policy, where the White House expressed a willingness to intensify the pressure on Iraq while others demanded With flexibility. ”
