Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: A project to increase oil production from the joint Yad Oran field began with the aim of producing 42 thousand barrels of oil per day with an investment of $350 million. Under this project, 24 wells will be drilled in this joint oil field.
In June 2004, news of the discovery of the Yadvaran oil field was announced, and a project was identified to develop this field in three stages, with production in the first stage reaching a ceiling of 85 thousand barrels per day, 180 thousand barrels per day in the second stage, and 300 thousand barrels per day in third level.
The Chinese began the project to develop the first phase of this field in August 2008, and while the first phase was supposed to be ready to operate at full capacity on July 7, 2013, that did not happen.
With Rouhani assuming the presidency of Iran and after emphasizing the development of the joint fields of the onshore sector as quickly as possible, especially the Yadvaran field in November 2013, and also the National Oil Company’s criticism of the performance of the Chinese contractor in this project, while 25 thousand barrels of oil were being produced daily from this joint field. Sinopec pledged to increase production to 50,000 barrels per day by February 2013.
After China did not fulfill its pledges to develop the first phase of the Yad Oran field, and after this phase began production with a capacity of 85 thousand barrels, the Chinese set out to obtain the second phase.
Iran's project to achieve 550,000 barrels per day from West Karun depends on the implementation of the second phases of the Azadegan and Yadvaran fields, which were entrusted to the same previous partners, despite the failure to fulfill the covenants followed by the Chinese.
