    Information / Baghdad..
Scientists at Perm National Research Technical University have created a unit to obtain petroleum products from plastic waste of almost any type, using water as a solvent for the plastic.
The university's media office indicates that researchers have successfully used the innovative method on more than 100 types of plastic waste, while the methods currently used are suitable for only 5-10 types.
A source at the university said, "University scientists have created a unit that processes a wide range of industrial waste. It requires four times less work space than existing facilities. Its components are entirely local. The innovation aims to deep treat waste using a universal solvent - water in a liquid state."
According to university data, the amount of plastic waste in Russia is 3.5-8.5 million tons annually, and this amount is expected to double in 2025. The percentage of plastic waste that is recycled reaches 5-12 percent of the total waste.
Currently, there are several recycling methods: mechanical - crushing plastic waste into small granules, biological - composting, chemical - destroying waste using controlled reactions, and thermal - burning household waste. High competition between companies and a large raw material base lead to the use of cheaper methods that aim to achieve high productivity, but neglect environmental protection.End / 25 AD
