A member of the State of Law coalition, Rep. Kata al-Rikabi, criticized on Wednesday what he called "irresponsible" statements about the financial situation of Iraq after the collapse of world oil prices.
Al-Rikabi said: “A number of deputies and analysts have released in the past few days a series of irresponsible statements bearing very exaggerated implications for the situation in Iraq after the collapse of world oil prices, especially with regard to salaries and material capabilities.
He added: Iraq is part of the global economic system and the collapse of oil prices will not lead to the collapse of its economy overnight; because there are measures that the government and the central bank will resort to in emergency cases in order to provide financial liquidity that contributes to creating flexibility in the payment of its dues, including salaries.
He pointed out that "the situation will become a real danger not to Iraq, but to the entire world economy if the complex crisis between the Corona virus and the drop in oil prices continues for 6 consecutive months."
Al-Rikabi pointed out that "the Corona crisis will end, at will, and there are many countries working to make a drug for the virus, and things will return to their course, even in large part once the disease crisis is over."
