The Border Ports Authority announced the details of the outputs of the meeting of the Chairman of the Authority, Omar Al-Waeli, with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, in preparation for the implementation of the expected process to control the ports, which were revealed by the prime minister earlier.
The authority said in a statement that it received "Yass Iraq" a copy of it, that "the head of the Border Ports Authority Omar Adnan Al-Waeli participated in the special meeting to discuss the reality of the border ports and ways to improve their performance in order to achieve the implementation of the government program strategy and enhance the state's revenues in light of the financial and economic crisis that it is going through Our country, which was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
Al-Waeli indicated that "the meeting with the Prime Minister had important outputs by agreeing on a set of necessary measures for the provisions of control of the work mechanism in the border outlets and finding plans to increase the level of revenue and stressing the prevention of any external interference aimed at tampering with the state's capabilities and creating a safe environment for workers in the border outlets."
Al-Waeli added, "The Prime Minister's directives were accurate and practical by emphasizing the selection of competent personnel from the border workers with experience and integrity and professionalism to perform their work and achieve the desired goals through them."
Al-Waeli added that “there are a number of important decisions that will be issued to reinforce the work of the Ports Authority with the provisions of its strict control through its legal powers to oversee, monitor, audit and security investigation on all departments operating in the ports in a way that achieves government directions and support the federal budget by maximizing revenue, indicating that this interest On the part of the Prime Minister, he gave a positive and real picture of the state’s interest in reforming the reality of the border outlets through consultations with the concerned parties to reach the desired goal of the provisions of control and reform the reality of the border outlets.
Earlier, Ahmed Mulla Talal, a spokesman for Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi, revealed a prospect for tightening control over the border crossings.
Mulla Talal said in statements during a press conference that Yassin Iraq followed, “The Prime Minister is conducting continuous meetings with the concerned authorities on the ports, and soon there will be firm measures for the state to impose its prestige on the border outlets,” noting that “the majority of the port revenues were going to the pockets of the corrupt ”
On the other hand, Speaker of Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi said, in a televised statement, that the Iraqi government has no control over the ports, the land ports, or the airport, and controlling these matters with a hand of a weapon outside the framework of the state.
He added, there are external parties seeking to dump the Iraqi market and stop the industry and agriculture in Iraq, and this is from multiple parties.
