A source in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, revealed today, Thursday, a decision taken by 25 embassies in Baghdad to close their headquarters as soon as the United States of America closed its embassy.
The source explained that "this number is preliminary, as it is likely that other embassies will join the closure decision after the 25 embassies start implementing it, and it is only waiting for the American side to implement the closure decision."
Noting that "the Iraqi government has tried to reassure embassies and international missions, but it has not succeeded in doing so, as those missions indicated the continuation of terrorist operations against international missions, despite repeated promises to the Iraqi government to stop these attacks."
Yesterday, a group of ambassadors and charge d'affaires issued a statement after their meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, expressing their concern about the rise in attacks against diplomatic institutions in Iraq.
