    {Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Communications is close to selecting 16 companies out of 42 advanced to operate optical cable networks completed in Baghdad and the provinces, while it is coordinating with a Chinese company to complete the project stages.

    During the past year, the Ministry of Communications conducted an experiment to set up the first optical cable booth in the Zayouna area, and its owners confirmed that the results obtained by switching from the “wire is not” service to the optical cable are very large compared to the more appropriate prices than before, as the service provides a high download speed, up to several times. The way it was through the towers, the download times, which used to take hours, are reduced to a few minutes.
    "The ministry has opened the door for bids to invest in optical network services, as it has submitted 42 specialized companies, and 16 of them will be selected to work on operating the project services after studying their capabilities in all aspects to achieve quality in Services to be provided to citizens. "
    The Ministry of Communications had previously announced that Arab, international and local companies had submitted the optical cable project to invest and market its services, and that the ministry would work on selecting the best ones in providing services.
    "The ministry is preparing to introduce the optical networks completed within the project to the service, to bring about a qualitative leap in the Internet service faster than it is now, as well as other services that the network will provide when it is put into operation through the infrastructures of the Ministry of Communications," Chalabi explained. 
    Chalabi indicated that "the ministry will distribute regions and cities among these companies to operate the service in the governorates of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Diyala, Anbar, Babil, Wasit, Najaf al-Ashraf, Holy Karbala, Diwaniyah, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Muthanna, Basra and Baghdad."
    She pointed out that "the company is coordinating with one of the Chinese companies specialized in the field of telecommunications, to complete the stages of the FTTH optical cable project to include all provinces."
