{Local: Al Furat News} The Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee, in the House of Representatives, announced, on Wednesday, that the law on official and religious holidays will be transferred to the next parliamentary session, while it indicated that religious events have become the subject of disagreement between sects and religions.
Committee member Hana Turki said in a press statement, that "the law may be transferred to the next session, because there is difficulty in presenting it in one of the upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives," noting that "the holidays in Iraq exceeded what exists in the countries of the world, and that the curfew decisions have contributed." By delaying the completion of transactions. "
She added, "The committee seeks to establish important events that have contact with citizens, such as the day of declaring victory over ISIS, the national day for Iraq, declaring the republican system in Iraq, and adding religious holidays, which are the first and tenth of the month of Muharram and the birth of the Prophet, and the days of Eid al-Fitr and the blessed Eid al-Adha." In addition to the proposal to declare an official holiday on the 25th of December on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Christ. "
She pointed out that "religious occasions have become a matter of disagreement between sects and religions," noting that "canceling them will benefit the economy and production."
Turki revealed, "There is a proposal to assign a limited number of these holidays to the governors after the approval of the Council of Ministers, and that the name of the law be (official holidays and memoranda), such as the celebration of Teacher's Day or the popular uprising in which there will be no official holiday."
