On Thursday, the Ministry of Communications announced the imminent operation of the optical cable project and the activation of the (Fiber to Home) service to provide telecommunications and Internet services supported by citizens, stressing that they will compensate for the existence of a national telecommunications company.
The ministry’s spokesman, Raad Al-Mashhadani, said in a press interview, that the ministry "has stopped the tenders for the companies that offer to invest in optical cable services and is preparing to operate it and grant multiple services through it to citizens."
He stressed, "There is no idea to establish a private company for communications because the optical cable project will provide many services to citizens in audio, video, internet and information communications," noting that "the Public Company for Communications and Informatics implements several projects and provides various services to citizens, in addition to the (Fiber to Home) project, which It will save browsing via internet and audio. "
Al-Mashhadani added that "the projects implemented by the ministry also include the operation of the national Internet project, which will provide high-speed internet services and unlimited internet, which was implemented in the Zayouna area and its service was introduced to about 1000 homes, in addition to its implementation within the areas of justice and the university because they are modern areas and the infrastructure in them is prepared. To introduce such services at subsidized prices. "
He revealed, "the ministry's willingness to extend the service to all regions after the ministry prepared a plan to operate its services in 14 governorates, in addition to Baghdad, which was divided into two governorates, Al-Karkh and Rusafa due to the population density in them, so that the number of governorates that will occupy the project will be 16 governorates, in addition to activating services ( For mobile phone companies. "
"The ministry keeps abreast of developments in the field of communications and information by updating switches, introducing modern devices to them, and following up the operation of developed countries in the field of telecommunications by operating the G5 and G6 after China launched a satellite operating with this service," the communications spokesperson said.
He pointed out that "the projects that will enter service soon, will save huge sums to the state treasury," noting at the same time that the ministry has succeeded in efforts to recover billions of dinars to the state treasury within a year of carrying out the shock operations that limited the smuggling of Internet capacity outside the country, In addition to the money that the operation of the optical cable will contribute from subscribing to its services through its cabins, as a number of companies have been selected to invest its services, and the engineering staff have been directed to intensify efforts to bring it into service throughout the country.
