Today, Thursday (May 30, 2024), the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee revealed the importance of the fifth and sixth licensing rounds that were recently announced by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil.
Committee member Kazem Al-Touki said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the fifth and sixth licensing rounds will increase production to one million barrels per day, in addition to exploiting the gas directly by companies, and not as was previously the case with Iraq’s agreement with the specialized companies to export oil only with Burning gas.
Al-Touki stated, “During the fifth and sixth licensing rounds, the company contracted with will be obligated to extract oil while investing the gas and converting it to national production, and adding gains from social benefits to the regions. Every company working on any oil project allocates $10 million as social benefits for the regions’ infrastructure.” In addition to employing the workforce, this matter will include most of the cities in Iraq.”
On Saturday (May 11, 2024), Iraq launched the fifth supplementary licensing round and the sixth round, including 29 projects in 12 Iraqi governorates.
Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, said on Sunday (May 12, 2024) that the fifth and sixth rounds of supplementary licensing will contribute to a significant increase in associated gas and free gas and will be reflected in power stations and the petrochemical and fertilizer industry.
Al-Sawad said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The step that comes after selecting the winning companies in the fifth and sixth complementary round is to proceed with signing the contracts and activating them for work," adding that "these projects will contribute to stopping the import of gas from abroad."
He pointed out that "the goal of the two rounds is to increase Iraq's gas production to reflect the reality of operating power stations, as well as to stimulate the economic reality in the governorates where the fields are located and the areas that international companies will proceed to start.
