The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, Thursday (May 27, 2021), that the Iraqi government stipulated commitment to the sovereignty of Iraq when implementing the UN Security Council resolution to send a UN team to monitor the elections.
" The government stipulated the implementation of the decision to send international election monitoring to adherence to the sovereignty of Iraq," ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf said in a statement received by   IQ NEWS .
He added, "Iraq is looking forward to providing a strong and clearly announced team of the United Nations."
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the approval of the UN Security Council to send a UN team to monitor the Iraqi elections scheduled for next October, and to extend the UNAMI mission to it.
