Al-Halbousi opens the door for candidacy for the post of President of the Republic again
Shafaq News/ Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi decided on Tuesday to reopen the nomination for the position of President of the Republic, after failing to hold the session designated for this purpose.
And most of the parliamentary blocs boycotted the session that was scheduled to be held last Monday to elect a new president for Iraq.
The Presidency of the House of Representatives said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that it held a meeting to discuss the issue of electing the President of the Republic, given the expiry of the constitutional period specified for the election according to Article (72/Second/B) of the Constitution without electing a President of the Republic.
In its statement, the Presidency noted that "based on the provisions of the Nomination Law for the Presidency of the Republic No. (8) for the year 2012, it was decided during the meeting: to open the door for candidacy for the position of President of the Republic, starting from Wednesday, February 9, 2022, for a period of (3) days."
