The Ministry of Industry justified the existence of factories that have not yet qualified and are suspended as "useless" in addition to the fact that they do not attract investors.
Director of the technical department in the ministry, Nasser Idris Mahdi Al-Madani, said that “the ministry has implemented a short-term plan that includes the rehabilitation of 22 factories, and a medium-sized plan to rehabilitate 20 factories, which is hoped to be completed during the current year, in addition to re-activating strategic factories in the future.”
He explained that “the ministry owns 286 factories, most of which have been completed since the eighties of the last century and before, and their buildings suffer from obsolescence and extinction, and even the spare materials that go into its work have stopped their manufacture in countries.”
Al-Madani indicated that “the process of rehabilitating the old factories has become unprofitable, and therefore investors have resorted to establishing factories near them with new production lines to reach high and profitable productivity, while the ministry has taken over the reinvigoration of some factories that needed simple funds.”
He pointed out that “the number of the suspended factories is 35, some of which have no economic feasibility in operating with the lack of investors’ interest in them. It is advisable to neglect them and establish other factories near them and announce them as investment opportunities.”

He pointed out that “the ministry is suffering from inflation in the working staff, in addition to the work of a number of factories at 50 percent of production capacity due to the lack of protection for the local product, because the application of most laws is very weak, and the year 2021 has become the worst year for protecting the national product.”
