Today, Saturday (August 26, 2023), the Economy and Industry Committee revealed the size of operating and stopped factories and factories in Iraq, while indicating that there is a government approach to eliminate the “losing ones.”
Committee member Ali Al-Maksousi said, “The Ministry of Industry has approximately (290) factories and factories throughout Iraq, and approximately (100) factories and factories have been stopped,” noting that “the stopping of these factories is due to several reasons, but the most prominent of them is mismanagement, corruption, and insistence on Relying on imports and not supporting the local product, and this stoppage costs millions to the treasury of the Iraqi state.
And Al-Maksusi indicated that “the current Iraqi government has a real intention to restart most of the factories and factories and activate them in a real way, especially since there are factories and factories that have been paying salaries to employees for years and they are without any real work or production,” noting that “there is a government tendency to activate and operate these factories in full.” its capacity until there is a large dam for the need of local products in the market.”
The Ministry of Industry had estimated that there are 40,000 “surplus” workers than the ministry’s needs, and they take their salaries from the treasury of countries, amid the presence of many losing factories that do not pay the salaries of their employees.
Specialists believe that many factories and factories have become dilapidated, old and backward, and there is no point in re-operating or maintaining them.
