The Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Al-Hamdani, confirmed, on Saturday, that Iran is diverting rivers within its borders, considering that Iran is working to displace communities inside Iraq.

Al-Hamdani said in an interview with a number of media outlets in Karbala, "Iran is diverting rivers' courses within their borders and changing the course of these rivers. This in itself is a clear international violation."

He added that "whatever the origin of the agreement, it does not give them the origin of changing the course of the rivers," stressing that "we do not see cooperation from the Iranian side so far, and we do not see cooperation by providing us with data and what are their projects."

Al-Hamdani stressed that “the Iranian situation is ambiguous to us because of what they are doing and what they are planning. In the coming days, we need to sit together. It is illogical for neighboring Iran to divert rivers,” adding that “Iran is working to displace communities inside Iraq and lose its right to water, and we hope that neighboring Iran will respond.” To hold negotiations and discussions to resolve this crisis.
