Shafaq News / The Ministry of Electricity announced on Wednesday that the electrical connection with Turkey will be completed after obtaining the initial approval of the European Union, and while it pointed out that there are understandings with the Gulf countries and Jordan to supply Iraq with energy, it confirmed that the completion of the lines will create "great" stability for the electrical network.
The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "Iraq has completed the technical connection with Turkey by 100%," noting that "the coming days will witness the conclusion of understandings and the conclusion of a final agreement with Turkey after obtaining the initial approval of the European Union to conduct this connection."
Moussa added that "Iraq is ready to transfer energy that ranges between 500-600 megawatts," stressing that "this energy will be paid according to Iraq's needs."
The ministry spokesman indicated that "Iraq will also have a link with the Arab Gulf, and there are understandings and negotiations about the tariff price, and there are serious negotiations with Saudi Arabia to establish a link with it through Arar - Yusufiya station."
Moussa pointed out that there is "another connection with Jordan through the establishment of a reisha-existing line and the establishment of the Al-Qaim transformer station with a capacity of 400 megawatts," stressing that "the establishment and completion of these lines will create great stability for the electrical network."
On April 27, 2022, Minister of Electricity Adel Karim made an “important” phone call with the Turkish Minister of Energy, in which they discussed the energy link between the two countries. Preparing the necessary transmission lines and transfer stations for this connection, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Iraq had concluded agreements with neighboring countries in order to establish an electrical connection in order to compensate for the shortage of electrical energy, especially during the peak days of the summer season, at a time when it is still completely dependent on Iranian gas revenues to operate electrical stations, and these revenues are decreasing from time to time.
