    The researcher in economic affairs, Nabil Al-Ali, confirmed, on Wednesday, that the levels of heroine and poverty in Iraq have reached their highest levels in the past two decades.
    Al-Ali told Al-Iqtisad News, “Facing poverty and unemployment is the most important challenge for the next government, especially as it has reached record levels with more than 31% of poverty and more than 16.5% of the spread of unemployment, and these percentages may be the highest in the past two decades.” .
    He added, "Despite the current very high and exceptional volume of government spending, the spending paths did not achieve a clear reduction in the mentioned indicators. On the contrary, society is facing an increase in these rates."
    He considered that this "confirms the inefficiency of economic policy in achieving the goals, and the reasons for this may be that the government's tools and spending doors may not have a direct impact on macroeconomic indicators, despite their large contribution to the gross domestic product."
    He called on the next government to "direct spending in a thoughtful manner in order to achieve qualitative developments in these spending effects, as well as focus on the obstacles to the progress of the non-governmental sectors (the private sector) by lifting restrictions and removing obstacles, and choosing the paths in which it participates with the public sector and integrate it with it."
