Babylon / Jalil Al-Ghazi
The local government in Babylon is talking about preparing a marketing plan for the products of the Hilla Textile Factory through coordination with the private sector laboratories in the province, as well as obligating government departments to purchase the factory’s products according to their needs of clothing and fabrics for job work.
This government plan comes after repeated appeals by the Hilla Textile Factory, demanding government departments to buy its products, which are now filling the stores without any benefit, especially since the factory depends on providing the monthly salaries of the employees on the products that are marketed.
The director of the sewing department in the factory, Engineer Muhammad Hadi, told Al-Mada that “the factory suffers from the estrangement of government departments in the governorate and the rest of the neighboring governorates regarding the purchase of its products, even though it is a product of high quality and subject to a standardization and quality control device.”
He pointed out, "The Hilla Textile Factory suffers from the absence of government support, which has harmed it greatly and caused the departure of the majority of its employees and asked for transfer to other departments."
He added, "The factory produces various clothes used in health departments and other service departments, such as electricity, water and municipalities, especially since the factory's products are subject to a complete sterilization process."
For his part, the director of the bags factory, Ahmed Fadel, told Al-Mada that "the factory's products compete with the imported products in terms of prices, as we have discounts of up to 5% for all government departments that have dealings with the factory," noting that "with all these facilities and still are Government departments are reluctant to buy his products.”
He explained that "the factory also produces waste bags and flour packing bags and has dealings with some owners of flour factories, but in a limited manner and does not meet the ambition, and that the factory needs a government decision that obliges government departments to purchase the factory's products exclusively and not others."
The director of the plant pointed out that “the Ministry of Electricity deals with the factory in an inappropriate manner and costs it huge sums of money by selling electricity units under the commercial system, even though the factory needs support from all ministries.”
In turn, the official of the textile factory, Hanan Abdel Hammoud, demanded, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the government works to preserve the local product by activating the tax system on imported goods and monitoring border crossings to regulate the movement of imports for goods."
She stressed that "the factory's products are stacked in warehouses because it is difficult to market them in the market or sell them to government departments."
She added, "The factory produces luxurious types of carpets and fabrics used in curtains."
Al-Hilla Textile Factory had more than 15,000 workers in its various factories and produced different types of textiles that feed the local market, while the number of workers at the present time does not exceed 2,000, after most of them left for other government departments to ensure that they receive the salary on an ongoing basis.
